90% of this info is useless. All we can say is that something related to your Nvidia driver crashed.
You'll need to reinstall and/or update your drivers if you haven't yet, if you can do a full clean install.

The game also just got updated so that might've fixed it, who knows.

Also check for windows updates.
If you can, restart your PC using the "restart" option in the start menu, don't shutdown and boot up again as that won't be a full system restart and keep some low level processes and data.

Make sure you're not overclocking your hardware and make sure you're not running gameboosting (like Razor Cortex

), RGB software or other programs related to AV, hardware or system cleanup as these often interfere heavily with your hardware for minimal to none benefit.

Someone else suggested using Special K (The Swiss Army Knife of PC Gaming), so you might want to try that.

Same problem, actually it's not only going to windowed it's changing any display option, including vsync off....

All of this leads to a ctd without any error message.

I tried starting it with -windowed, tried searching for cfg files where i could change the starting resolution but have found nothing that helps.

Edit: Looks like i got a fix for it. i downloaded Special K and it seems to work. You just have to add balatro to the game list in the app and then inject the app while balatro is running. It's all explained after you install the app and it's easy....i could do it. ;)

Finally able to watch a movie while playing this :)

I checked windows event viewer, and it said something about a conflict with RTSS (RivaTunerStatisticsServer). I set up a profile for Balatro in RTSS and set Application detection level to None, and now the game starts every time. You could also just quit RTSS.

your friend probably didnt pay attention to what they downloaded and grabbed an AD! the uploads from here will ALWAYS be .rar format. no EXE, or "other". i have had so many attempts on my accounts being hacked its unreal. but never would i throw IGG into that sentence. bc it was only AFTER using another site did any of that shit start. honestly if your 'friend' downloaded an AD that's kind of on them. Your downloading a rar file 100% of the time rather just one, or many (for some games). paying attention to what you download isn't IGG's fault.

ad's are how the site stay running, IGG doesn't post the ads themselves
any SCENE release from here can be cross checked with the CRC/SHA of the original from SRRDB while not all releases are from a scene group (like codex, CPY, FLT, EMPRESS, RAZOR/1911, ETC) some are P2P (peer 2 peer) i.e. someone like me, or you crack it or its obtained from somewhere else. its then sent to the admin thru the email on site, then checked with several virus scanning tools and posted. or if obtained elsewhere from a P2P site its obtained from a reputable source.
no files get uploaded here without thoroughly checking them!

again, its on your buddy for getting hacked. its unlikely that happened from IGG!

The cards are so blurry, I can't see what I'm doing. It's only the cards, the rest of the game looks normal. It says it only needs OpenGL 2.1 and works with integrated graphics, so it's not a lack of hardware. 🤔

It's not that; it's an OpenGL issue. This 2D card game "requires" OpenGL 3+. I guess I'll just play Doom3 at max settings or Farcry instead.

Which is just as well; I've heard this is badly addictive.

It wont work for me, when launching , it says engine/packer_packer.lua:50: [string "return {}":1: '' expected near 'return'. Have tried starting as admin and it still wont work

Do I really have to explain what a false positive is? The method used to crack games is similar to the method used to code m-a-l-w-a-r-e! Anti-virus programs will detect the crack as a virus and delete it, even though it isn’t! :)

What do you mean, "method to crack games"? It's a basic Steam game, all you have to do is put the Goldberg steam_api64.dll into the folder of the clean Steam files. No need for shady "cracks" that trigger Window Defender.

Yes, you are right, I always use Goldberg. But maybe you don't know that Goldberg is still triggered by Window defender. Window defender behavior is different in different countries, you know that? it depends on database in different countries. For example, with this game, it uses Goldberg, but in your windows, it doesn't warn you at all, but in someone's windows in EU, it will warn. You can check it yourself by downloading this game, you will see that I use Goldberg. And some people still complain about this... Even virustotal has clean results (ironically "Microsoft" in virustotal also gives clean results).

If you want I can give you another example, you will see that.
