this game was not released in 2014, but in 2000 (steam says 2001. game devs say 2000<-gonna go with this one)

Actually, the GOG version WAS released in 2014, so that is correct. The
original game, released for computer architecture that isn't supported
anymore, was released back in 2000, as you noted.

thats odd. heres the gog page https://www.gog.com/game/summoner and it also says 2000. gog does not rewrite games to support new architecture. they are not a game development company. they simply sell DRM free games. the 2014 date is simply when they started selling it, not when THQ Nordic created the game.

Incorrect, that's EXACTLY what they do with games that aren't programmed to work on modern computer architecture, and Gog list the date the game originally was released. You can see this with any of the original Goldbox AD&D games that they've also done exactly that to.

Incorrect in both aspects.

I have the original discs and it runs perfectly fine out of the box on my new rig under Windows 10 making me wonder what does the gog release have to offer.
Gog indeed does not rewrite games, they apply compatibility patches and workarounds, often provided by the community.

Not incorrect in either aspect.
You seem to be conflating the fact that I said that it was released for architecture that isn't supported anymore with the idea that, because it wasn't made for current architecture, it won't run; that is not what I said.
The date listed is the date it was originally released, not the date that GoG started selling it (the PS2 version was released in 2000; the PC version wasn't released until 2001, 2002 in some areas), and they do in fact rewrite games when necessary; usually it is not necessary, but especially with games that have DRM like SecuROM they have to reverse-engineer them sans source code and remove it, or if it's not possible or works better, apply a third-party crack (as they've so infamously done and been called out for in the past). Just because they don't always or even commonly do something (because it's not always needed) doesn't mean that they don't do it at all. Many old hardware enthusiasts who've turned to GoG to get copies of old games have complained because the files no longer can run on the original hardware due to the modifications made to get them to run, beyond just running them in a VM like SCUMMVM or DOSBox.
